SPERD (proper noun) origin: speech nerd - a student at White House High School who is part of the award winning speech team; also known as forensics. SPERDs can be found in the English hall afterschool practicing with their fearless leader Mrs. Higdon or traveling to compete at tournaments all over the state. The SPERDS have been at WHHS since 2010. In that time they have had two National Qualifiers (ranked 15th in the nation, Dramatic Interpretation) and multiple state and district champions. Emily Higdon (a former speech competitor herself) is currently a diamond coach and district NSDA board member.
